Justice and Legal Affairs Secretary, David Mangota says the country is failing to recognise human rights, because of sanctions which were imposed on it by the West.
The West imposed sanctions on senior ZANU (PF) officials in 2002 citing rigged election, property and human rights abuses.
"Government reaffirms its outmost commitment to addressing all human rights issues despite the burden which was placed by illegal sanctions which were placed on us by some western countries.Tanga tiine machallenges edu isu nevana vedu and the West wanted us to vilify our own government,"said Mangota while addressing people gathered to Commemorate Human Rights Day in Harare,Monday.(Read More)
The Judicial Service Commission has launched Protocol on the Multi-Sectoral Management of Sexual Abuse and Violence in Zimbabwe which will see women and children being protected against violence and abuse during election time when such cases increase.
Officially launching the protocol at Pandari Lodge in Harare Makarau said sexual violence is used as a weapon in conflicts.
"Sadly sexual violence sometimes is used as a weapon in conflicts. As we go towards elections now there is something that we should bear in mind that sometimes sexual abuse and violence is used as a weapon of power. To me sexual abuse and violence is a power game and it is an abuse of power by whoever believe that they have got power over the next person, "Judicial Services Commission Secretary Justice Rita Makarau while launching the initiative in Harare Friday,"Sexual violence and abuse to me is an issue that society needs to be constantly informed on. The National Movement of Catholic Students (NMCS) in partnership with Coping Centre for People Living with HIV/AIDS (COCEPWA) will on Saturday the 8th of December stage a belated World AIDS Day commemoration road show in Harare.
The event, whose venue isAfrica Unity Square will startat9am till late, is going to be attended bysee various civic organizations giving solidarity massages.
